interchange boards or to use modern boards as upgrade for previous version.

Unlike commercial standard CD players the CD-PRO module is considered to be a non repairable item. The reason for this is the complexity of the 4 layer PCB and the mechanical adjustments, factory done in the opto-mechanical section.

Required skills

For the building of the DIY projects no special skills are required other then a general interest in mechanics and electronics and above all the capabilities to think logical and step by step.

Guarantee

On the parts there is no guarantee given. The parts are industrial parts intended for use in a controlled environment. The parts should be handled by qualified persons. As non of the above is applicable to the DIY market a guarantee can’t be given. From the forums one can however learn that the quality upon arrival and the actual functioning of the product was never questioned. The quality is close to 0 ppm rejects for many months.

The CD-PRO2LF is a heavy duty professional CD playback module for use in studio’s, test equipment and continuous music reproduction equipment. Unlike most other CD configurations it makes use of a pre-amplifier which moves together with the optics on a sledge following the track. This ensures quality tracking signals as well as data signals for the data slicer and allows for a high quality “eyepattern” with low jitter.

The optics are during the production process aligned to the metal chassis. For this some mechanical adjustments are made on the sledge it self, in order to ensure perpendicular readout. The distance between the disc and lens is set by the height of the turntable and is has an accuracy within the micrometer range. Lastly internally in the sledge assembly the laser energy is set to  the lowest possible level for good readout thus ensuring the longest product lifetime without producing excessive heat that would reduce the lifetime significant and contribute to noise and jitter.

The servo decoder electronics incorporate a self ranging servo system dealing with mechanical deterioration of the system. The servo parameters are however carefully tuned for the type of servo and the overall mechanism parameters. Therefore it is not possible to
